Title: Can't Turn Left On Tuesdays
Rating: R - NC-17
Characters: Jon/Spencer, Panic! At The Disco
Word Count: 16,540.
Warnings: None.
Disclaimer: Lies, falsehoods, glorious fantasy.
Summary: "I've made out with guys a few times," Jon says meditatively. He shrugs and takes a sip of beer, utterly casual, like he's saying that he's played a few games of hockey, or played a little guitar in his time.
Notes: Thanks to A, A, and P for betaing. Belladonnalin said in her prompt that she liked laughing and frottage, so I started with that and ended up with *plot*. I hope that's okay. Happy holidays!

Spencer's characterization. I-- WOW. You did such an amazing job of showing how he's young and scared and clinging to control like that's going to make things easier for him. Jon was so incredibly lovable in this. His patience, the way he's got a lot to lose, but he's going to take what he can get anyway. The two year ago difference between them is so well illustrated. How Jon's maybe been, if not exactly where Spencer is, at least he's been *somewhere* before. This isn't new to him in the same way.
Brendon and Ryan in the background were perfect. I felt like I was living in this whole world with them, and it was *so* good. I know this is a story I'm going to reread until the end of time.
The build between Jon and Spencer killed me dead. Jon reaching out to Spencer after their first hook up, the way that Spencer turned in on himself completely afterwards (though was still never a dislikable character! I could always feel for him, always empathize).
I'm refraining from quoting lines back at you because, seriously, *gestures*, all of that was so fucking good. I loved the ending, loved how this was just about that tour, and how the experimentation probably created more questions for Spencer than it answered.
I'm so giddy and happy right now because this is my very most favorite kind of story (that sexual exploration/tension) and the writing as SO GOOD and the characters were so vivid and so real, and I'm not sure how much coherency I'm achieving right now, but. Man.
Wow.

You created a group of characters that were believable as friends and bandmates- I loved the way you used Brendon and Ryan. In some ways, I think getting background characters pitch perfect is harder than doing so for main characters, but you completely sold me on them. They felt fully-formed and realistic and it never felt like they were there as cameos. Their inclusion was necessary to the story in the best possible way. (And, uh, in my head they were doing some experimentation of their own on the tour. ♥_♥)
I also loved the way you used the tour. There was this entire world of new places and venues and shows just peeking through the action of the story, and it made a great backdrop to the story. I honestly cannot say enough about how much I loved this- it's the story about Spencer I have always been waiting and wanting to read. Absolutely wonderful.

But, but. I want more.
This was amazing, and it wasn't supposed to end dammit.

and for the record, I thought my heart was going to break there when Spencer wouldn't hug Jon. I may have even let a tear slip out.

That was exactly what I wanted to do! Thank you, I'm really glad that you enjoyed it.

The characterization here is incredible, on all fronts. You put the reader in a world - every single character feels developed, full, real (on that note, I absolutely fucking LOVED how you wrote Amanda, and her and Ryan's connection).
Sometimes when I read things, I can sense that I am clearly following a timeline, moving from plot point to plot point, and there is a clear place I need to get to. With this, it felt more like I was simply moving with the characters as they lived their life - a life that happened to be full of (nicely understated) plot. And I absolutely love that feeling. And it made Spencer and Jon's slow, slow build that much richer, and that much more satisfying.
I just... this is wonderful, and I know it's something I'll be rereading.

OH. OH OH OH OH OH.
Oh my GOD, this is the best holiday gift EVER. This is fucking PERFECT, with the complicated and the difficult and the negotiation of difficulties and oh. MY GOD.
I seriously don't have fucking WORDS for this, it is so amazing.
Spencer looks at the ground; if he knew the answer, he'd give it, but -
oh. This is Spencer. THIS, RIGHT HERE, this is Spencer.
GOD, this is so very amazing.

It was awkward at first and then the way they evolved. So good, that in the end they were laughing. And I was the one hoping the summer didn't end.
I really like it!

Yeah, what they said. What they all said. This story is perfection. PERFECTION. I love where you ended it, complete with my breathy sigh. But also, ALSO, I can't help wanting to know what happens next. I was living in this world with them for a little while. Living there and seeing their lives. So real. So WOW.

I hate how much I love hating that I love the fact that I hate even though I love where you ended it.
You will never know how much I loved this comment, because I had to stay quiet until the reveal was up. But! That was just about the perfect response. *g*

I could go on and on about what I liked but I'd just be quoting the whole fic because of it's brilliance. The one thing I particularly adored though was the way you dealt with Spencer being all new to the sex stuff and his anxiety and awkwardness and the way Jon was so patient and willing to just wait. Just so real and perfectly done.
Also I am a sucker for uncertain endings so I think this stopped in just the right place so the possibilities of the future for them are endless.

"The world is truly a vale of tears," Ryan says, rolling his eyes, and Brendon brightens.
"Yeah, Ryan Ross," he says. "Just like that. Talk flowery to me."
"Wow, I actually didn't think this bus could get any more ridiculous," Spencer says, as Ryan starts to read from The Picture of Dorian Gray, with Brendon curled up against his side, whimpering. "I mean."
"There could be llamas," Jon says, shrugging. "I figure as long as there are no llamas, we're good."
This is the best paragraph in the history of ever. Just sayin'.

Well, first off I want to bite into that awesomeness that went on the background - meaning, Ryan and Brendon. That is exactly hoe I'd imagine their friendship to be, so... just, so AWESOME. Like all the mocking-each-other and wrestling matches and EVERYTHING. Best two side-characters ever. <3
Then, side-characters, um, aside, and on with Jon and Spencer. I mean, wow. Holy shit. I can't even comprehend. Jon - awesomeness. Jon was too awesome. Not perfect, no, perfect is boring, but just awesome. And Spencer with all his insecurities and hesitance... and. Everything.
Awesome, I think I over-used that word for good now. Sorry for that. But my head's kinda blank now, can't produce anything else. :D
Thank you for this. <3

Your Spencer and Jon are wonderful and real, and I adored all the background people. Brendon and Ryan weren't the focus but that didn't matter because they were fully realized, and The Hush Sound and Amanda Palmer were fucking awesome too.
Fantastic job, anonymous.
